The Dried Starter Option
No jar. No fancy gift box. Just our nearly 100-year-old sourdough culture, dried and ready to wake up when you are.
Whether you’re completely new to sourdough, replacing a much-loved starter or keeping a backup for the inevitable “I thought you were feeding it” incident, this is a simple, affordable way to get started.
Made with just flour and water, our family starter has been passed down through generations of bakers in Cheshire. We dry a portion of that same culture and seal it in a flat, airtight envelope. All the potential for beautiful bread, without the extras.
Your starter. Your schedule.
There’s no need to feed it when it arrives. Keep it sealed somewhere cool and dry until you’re ready to begin. Buying ahead, gifting it or waiting for a quieter week? It can wait.
When the time comes, grab a clean jar (or check out our personalised ones), some bread flour and water, then follow our reactivation instructions. Allow several days of feeding for your starter to wake up and become reliably active before baking.
Once established, care for it just as you would a live starter. Keep feeding it, and it can keep you baking for years.
